Accurapid Translations was among the first translation companies in the United States to computerize its operations in the late 70s using IBM System 6 electronic word processors (photo left).

In 1981 Accurapid purchased The Belding Typesetting Company and integrated its Varityper brand typesetting machines into the translation operation via the Shaffstall programmable interface (photo right). We used 2400-baud synchronous modems and 1200-baud asynchronous modems at that time for modem-to-modem file transfers and, later, for CompuServe and MCI e-mail.

In 1985 we switched to Macintosh computers for the translation operation, and two years later for typesetting, using a Linotype PostScript(r) imagesetter for high-quality output. Over the years, as more powerful computers and faster modems became available, Accurapid kept up with technological progress by utilizing more and more sophisticated Macintosh and DOS-Windows computers and ever faster communication devices.

We went on-line with MCI and CompuServe in 1985, had full Internet access as early as 1994 and our own Web site in 1996. Today we have a network of powerful Macintosh and Wintel computers, including two laptops, together with five different printers, including two color printers and a 1200 dpi large-format laser printer. These computers provide each of our employees with direct high-speed access to the Internet.

Our software library includes late versions of the major word processors, DTP and graphic programs, translation memory programs, Internet software packages, spreadsheets, and databases, in addition to countless productivity-enhancing utilities for both platforms.

Our reference library contains thousands of paper and electronic dictionaries, glossaries, and other reference material in all the major languages of the civilized world. We extensively use the resources of the Internet, including the language- and subject matter-specific expertise available in the different electronic forums and mailing lists.

We continue to upgrade our hardware and software to provide our customers with the best possible service at competitive prices.
