he first issue of the Translation Journal appeared exactly ten years ago, in June 1997. Since then, countless Web sites emerged and disappeared; technologies and fads came and went; both the software and the machines we're using have become more powerful and are available to more and more people all over the world.

If collected in book form, the 41 issues of the TJ published so far would make up several hefty volumes costing thousands of dollars. Yet all this material has been provided free of charge and is still accessible at a click of the mouse.

For all these years, the Translation Journal has been published regularly, every quarter, appearing on the Web by the week before the dateline month. It's a record we're proud of, made possible by our authors, who have selflessly shared their knowledge and experience; the Profiles—experienced translators, who took the time and made the effort to tell us about how they reached the point where they are today; Chet Claff, who for many years taught us about the mysteries of Organic Chemistry; Fire Ant and Worker Bee, who provided us with valuable business advice; Cathy Flick, who has gathered the best Web sites for translators in various fields; and all those who have contributed to the Translation Journal or the Translation Journal Blog.

We're also grateful to our advertisers and our donors, who have made the Journal financially viable, and to all those translators, educational institutions, businesses, and webmasters who have established a link to the Translation Journal, ensuring its popularity and high ranking with the Web search engines. And we are grateful to our readers, who have encouraged us to keep going and have given us valuable suggestions for improvements.

Please continue to support the TJ also in the future so we can provide this valuable, free resource to all translators for the next ten years and beyond.
